Tucson-December 19, 2000-DoTucson.com
Tucson's city online guide, won a silver medal at the International Cellmania M-commerce WAPPY Awards banquet in New York on December 13, 2000. The M-commerce WAPPY Awards honor wireless retailers and content providers that develop innovative sites designed specifically for mobile users. DoTucson.com was honored in the best restaurant site category, coming in second to Zagat.com. Others notable companies nominated were: Amazon.com (USA), Ebay (USA), and E-Street.com (UK).

The Mcommerce WAPPY Award nominees were selected by a group of six judges, all experts in the wireless industry. More than 10,000 sites were considered before selecting the top finalists. Judges evaluated nominees based on several criteria including accessibility, navigability, relevance of content and product offerings, and overall design.

This year's judges were: Lydia Lee, staff writer, The Industry Standard; Craig Peddie, general manager and director of the Lexicus Division, Motorola; Chris Hurst, Vice President of North American Services Sales, Sun MicroSystems; Craig Dalton, Director of Business Development, Proteus; Tom Parrish, Director of Business Development, AT&T Wireless; and Dr. Ronjon Nag, CEO and co-founder, Cellmania.

"We were very impressed not only by the number of companies developing Web sites specifically for the wireless user, but also the caliber of those sites," said Chris Hurst of Sun MicroSystems who served as one of the judges. "If this year's Mcommerce WAPPY Awards nominees are any indication, the future of M-commerce stands to be very exciting."
