The
Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter
is a non-profit organization, supported entirely
by private and corporate donations and exists solely
for the shelter, protection and care of homeless
cats.
The Hermitage is Tucson’s only no-kill, no-cage
facility (except for quarantine). We are located
in central Tucson, northwest of the intersection
of 22nd Street and Craycroft.
Mission: Shelter – homeless cats; Adopt and Place
– as many cats as possible to optimal permanent
homes; and Educate – the general public in responsible
companion animal ownership.
You
can help us with... FINANCIAL support; Donation
of material (many specific items are needed –ask
about Wish List for detailed suggestions); Underwriting
of recurring costs (e.g., veterinary bills, phone,
electric and water bills; printing of newsletter
and stationery); DEDICATED volunteers. Other support
programs include: Memberships; Bequests; Sponsor-A-Cat;
Kitty Rescue.
How does the Adoption Program work?
Come to the shelter between 11 am and 3 pm Wednesday
- Monday (closed Tuesdays and first Monday of each
month for "deep" cleaning).
You will be asked to read some introductory material,
then be given a guided tour, during which you are
introduced to the adoptable cats. If you and one
(or more) of our feline residents bond, you may
fill out an application for adoption. Upon approval
of the application, a Hermitage representative will
contact you to schedule a home check. Upon approval
of the home check, you can come to the shelter to
pick up your new friend for life.
How much does it cost, and what do you get?
The adoption/donation fee is $50 per cat, and is
nonrefundable. You receive a cat that has been:
1) tested for FeLV and FIV; 2) sterilized; 3) checked
for parasites; and 4) given appropriate vaccinations.
This is a bargain; the cost for the same services
at a veterinary clinic ranges between $200 and $250
in Tucson, depending upon the age and health of
the cat. To the best of our knowledge, the cat(s)
are in good health. You receive full information
about any treatments given. There is no "trade"
(for another cat) policy.
