Agua Caliente located on Tucson's east side, has
been an integral part of the Southwest's civilization
for the past five thousand years. Agua Caliente, meaning
hot spring, is a water source that flows into three large
ponds creating its own little ecosystem with fish, fowl
and other animals. Today, there are several interpretive
signs explaining both the history of Agua Caliente as
well as the natural geological and environmental progression
of Agua Caliente.
In 1873, a health spa and ranch was erected
around Agua Caliente with the intent on using the water
for its curative properties. In the 1920's, a bunkhouse
was built to accommodate overnight guests to the health
resort. Thanks to Friends of Agua Caliente and the Parks
and Recreation Department, the historic ranch has been
preserved.
Agua Caliente makes
a great place for an afternoon picnic, a morning walk
or just an excuse to watch the ducks on a nice afternoon.
Agua Caliente is located at 12325 East Roger Road and
is open daily.
